Variety Night! Teresa Tudury, Vicki Juditz, Jonathan Solomon!

TERESA TUDURY started writing songs at age 12 and was performing in San Francisco nightclubs at 15. With a deep, sultry voice that magnetizes audiences, and a scathing comedic wit to match, Teresa is a consummate performer who pours out her original songs with power, verve, passion, and disarming humor. The LA Weekly describes her voice as a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt.  She has recorded and/or performed with such greats as Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones, Lyle Lovett, Taj Mahal and Leo Kottke.

"It's not clear yet whether singer/comedienne Teresa Tudury is another Tracey Ullman, a new Sophie Tucker or a revitalized Bea Lillie. Her utterly madcap performance...managed to include reference to all of the above-and then some...What we're talking about here, folks, is a star in the making."  Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times

VICKI JUDITZ... The Los Angeles Ovations winner has a hilarious/poignant new show, The Adventures of The Green Housewife!  In her never-ending quest for the zero carbon footprint, the Green Housewife rides forth in her loyal, dependable Prius to battle foes both seen and unseen. At her side is her skeptical daughter, who refuses to let the fight against global warming keep her from looking good or partying with friends.

Frequently compared to Sara Vowel and David Sedaris, Juditz performs her compelling and quirky personal narratives throughout the US and beyond. "Juditz employs empathy and a self-deprecating humor that lay bare the foibles and tragedy of the human condition, causing us to reflect on our own moral choices." LA Weekly * "...a born storyteller... what sets her writing, and her performance, apart is her sense of humor, and an eye for the incongruous and ridiculous." LA Times

JONATHAN SOLOMON is a (retired) stand-up comedian who appeared regularly on Late Night with David Letterman and the Late Show with David Letterman, co-hosted the MTV morning show, Awake On the Wild Side and was the host of the late, great, sorely missed NBC children's program, Kid's TV. Among the television shows Jonathan has written for are Michael Moore's TV Nation and Mad About You. These days he is a blogger at The Huffington Post and Politico.Com writing on political topics - sometimes taking it all seriously, sometimes not. You can listen to him sharing fact-filled punditry on NPR and other stops on the radio dial.

The Gary Gordon Band at O'Brien's on Main Street Aug. 2

Hi all,

The Gary Gordon Band will play at O’Brien’s on Main Street (Main & Pier Ave.) in Santa Monica on Sunday, August 2 from 7pm – 8:30pm.

This mythical and legendary band strikes without warning except for advance email notices to friends, and is known for never knowing when or if it will reassemble again.

In other words, don’t miss it!

The band features Leon Rubenhold, Jace Kent, Deanna Hurst, Bruce Spiegel (bass player from the Neil Deal and Heartless), and of course, Gary.

Playing originals, not just like the record.

No cover.

Hope you can make it!

Gary

Western Project is proud to present Exene Cervenka and Wayne White in We're Not the Jet Set. Each a long time resident of Los Angeles, they address contemporary America with an urban sensibility and found objects. Wayne White paints language on vintage framed lithographs, recalling the intelligence and incisive bite of Mark Twain. Exene Cervenka, lead singer of the seminal punk band X, collages remnants from her travels across the US; photographs, children's books, bullet boxes and other familiar pieces of Americana. Both artists point to a shared history - a Pop culture and cosmology illuminating the light and darker aspects of our society. Cervenka unabashedly explores desire and consequence; White's paintings are colloquial tidbits, humorous tales of knowledge. Both are after a kind of wisdom within the shadows of human nature. While clearly in the lineage of Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Cornell, these artists cut to the chase about who we are and what we are up to.

Exene Cervenka is currently touring with X, and included in Celestial Ash; Assemblages From Los Angeles, curated by Kristine McKenna at the Craft and
Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. Wayne White will open a solo sculpture exhibition at Rice University in September and is the subject of the recent release: Wayne White: Maybe Now I'll Get the Respect I So Richly Deserve, edited and designed by Todd Oldham and published by Ammo Books, LLC.
